Mary Raco is a qualified Orthoptist and Ophthalmic assistant with over 30 years of experience behind her. Receiving her degree from the University of Sydney, she began her career under Dr. Jay Chandra’s employment in 1987; a working relationship that has endured over the last two decades.
As an Orthoptist, Mary specialises in eye movement disorders, specifically strabismus, double vision, and amblyopia. Her role as an Ophthalmic assistant involves the treatment of eye diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, systemic or neurological vision disorders, and low vision.
Throughout her career, Mary has worked for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, where she specialised in early childhood development for handicapped children. Since 2005, she has volunteered with UnitingWorld’s Fiji Eye Care Program, restoring the sight of blind men, women and children through cataract surgery.
Through her work, Mary aims to promote a higher quality of life for visually-impaired children and adults.
